I'm going to be on TV!

Hi Reader,

Since I finished the first couple chapters of the technical book I've been working on (Up and Running with Aerospike), O'Reilly sent me some money. I promptly spent it and more to get help from PR by the Book on publicizing the Liliana and the Fae of Fayetteville series. In particular, they're ramping up publicity for the next book in the series, Explosive Chemistry.

It's in final copy edits with the publisher, and we've settled on a cover design, so COMING SOON! I'll keep you posted on progress.

In the meantime, I've got news!

First cool bit of news is that I sold "Helicopter Parents" an AI sci fi short story I wrote to Flame Tree Publishing for their upcoming anthology, Learning to be Human. The anthology is going to be a mix of contemporary authors and stories by classic sci fi authors like Mary Shelley and HG Wells. That's right. Yours truly is going to be in a sci fi anthology with Damon Knight, Joseph Conrad, and Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Having a little trouble wrapping my brain around that, but it doesn't come out till early next year, so I have a few months to get used to the idea.

Second bit of news. I think I mentioned in my last letter that my mixed genres panel that I proposed for the online convention Cli Fi Con 2023, and it was accepted! The mixed genre panel will be at 9:30 AM CDT on Saturday Oct 7. So far, I'm on the panel. My friends Sol Sharp and David R Watson are on the panel, and I've asked a couple of other writers I know. If you'd like to be on a hopeful climate future conference panel about mixed genres, reply to this email with your bonafides and a short bio, please.

Will update everyone with more news about who is on the panel with me, and what other panels I might be on closer to the time.

Life Stuff

Joe and I had planned on being at an SCA event this weekend, however, Winnebago apparently had other plans. Our RV is still in the shop, after 2 months. Our little buddy, Kuro, has also been having some major issues. He injured his back.

He is doing far better now, after about a month of constant care, and two doggy emergency room visits. Joe made a ramp so he doesn't have to use our stairs to go outside. Today, he snuck outside, down the ramp and walked over to my in-laws next door without us realizing it. He tried to steal my slipper this morning, too, so we know he's more or less back to his ornery self. Between taking care of Kuro, my own bout with stomach flu, and the RV being on the fritz, we didn't make it to the event this weekend as we had hoped.

Elfsea Baronial College is the next SCA event we're planning on coming to. It's a day event, so no RV required. My husband and I have been practicing our archery and thrown weapons, but ironically, the one event we're sure to make it to probably won't have archery. Sigh. Eventually, they will give us back our RV and we'll be back on the road.

And since I can't write one of these without including a cool nature pic, here ya go.

Now, the announcement you've all been waiting for (at least since you read the subject line), I'm going to be on an author panel with two other folks on Spectrum News! (Here's a link to an example of a past author panel Spectrum News did.) I go in for filming on October 6 in the morning, then the segment should air in various places all over Texas over the weekend!

So, I'll see you on the screen!

Cheers,

Paige

Hi Reader, I know, I know, I haven't sent a newsletter out in over six months. There have been some major very bad things happening in my personal life and a few good ones as well. The combination has made it crazy hard for me to find time and energy just to write, much less write a letter to everyone about writing. Since I last wrote a Words and Wild newsletter I lost a day job I'd had for five years, gained a new day job, lost a beloved young dog unexpectedly, had my car totaled by a...

Hi Reader, It's been a busy month! I'm getting some great reviews on Explosive Chemistry, but the numbers on them are pretty low. If you've been meaning to write a review, I can sure use it! Writing News LOTS of new promotional stuff out on the web by me, mostly interviews, but also a Liliana prequel story! And a cool article. Motherhood Moment published an interview. The Reading Nook published an interview. The Frumious Consortium published an Explosive Chemistry excerpt. The Table Read has...

Hi Reader, (Something weird happened and half the pics didn't load, just the captions. Not even sure how to do that if I wanted to. I blame satellite internet on the cruise ship. Here's my second attempt.) Liliana and the Fae of Fayetteville Launch day for Explosive Chemistry, book 2 of the Fae of Fayetteville books, is sneakin up on me fast. I've been madly getting day job work squared away, getting packed, traveling, boarding, and finally got to go snorkeling with my family yesterday in the...
